The natural scenery of Hachijojima (Hachijo Island) changes not only every season, like the rest of Japan, but every month. This is an ideal spot for those who love to be surrounded in magnificent nature, through activities such as trekking, diving, and much more.
The appeal of Hachijojima lies in the fact that the visitor can truly get a sense of the culture and history of the area through interaction with the local people, which makes the experience even more interesting. In the spring, witness the ashitaba plant, taste island shochu made at one of the island’s four breweries, enjoy lomilomi massage that will bring you into a resort mood, or try hand-weaving Kihachijo, a traditional craft of the island. All of these things together create a truly out-of-the-ordinary experience.
Lomilomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage. The massage available on Hachijojima is known as lokahi lomilomi, which is believed to restore body and mind to their original state of health. Lokahi, meaning “harmony” in the Hawaiian language, is no ordinary massage; it has a deep healing effect that incorporates the natural environment. Try this authentic treatment and take advantage of the special surroundings of Hachijojima to relax to the utmost.
